Shillingford Organics win the Best of Organic Market Award! #BOOM

Many congratulations to the team at Exeter’s own organic farm Shillingford Organics who have won this year’s prestigious Best of Organic Market Awards (BOOM Awards) from the Soil Association for Best Organic Box Scheme.

Martyn Bragg, Owner of Shillingford Organics said:

We are delighted to have received the BOOM Award. Shillingford Organics is all about growing seasonal, organic vegetables, salad, herbs and fruit giving local people a great opportunity to buy healthy, freshly harvested organic produce, which is free from harmful pesticides and chemicals

The ceremony was held at the iconic Borough Market in London following judging by a panel of experts including chefs, journalists and retailers. This year, there were over 1000 entries across a range of categories and Shillingford Organics won the Best Organic Box Scheme.

The Soil Association’s BOOM Awards are the UK’s only dedicated organic awards celebrating people, producers, restaurants and brands working to produce food as it should be.

More people than ever before are choosing organic – confirmed by recent research from England Marketing which revealed that 39% of shoppers buy organic food on a weekly basis. Certified organic means food that has been produced to the very highest standards. It means fewer pesticides, no artificial additives or preservatives, always free range, higher standards of animal welfare and absolutely no GM (genetic modification). Now in its fifth year of continued growth and worth £2.09 billion, the organic sector has never been healthier.

Soil Association Certification Business Development Director, Clare McDermott said:

The organic market grew a fantastic 7% last year, and more and more people are looking for, buying and talking about organic. With hundreds of new and innovative products launched last year alone, the BOOMs are a fantastic opportunity to make some noise about organic and help more people understand the benefits, alongside showcasing the range of amazing products and producers.

Shillingford Organics is proud to be one of the companies that are innovating and championing organics, and producing food as it should be. Martyn Bragg said:

We work closely with nature and really encourage people to visit the farm to see where their food comes from. The Farm School is in its second year and is proving to be an excellent way to educate our young, ‘From the Ground Up’. Our online shop has made it easier for people to choose organic and we are proud to supply local people with good, local organic produce that has been grown and cared for on the farm.”

Shillingford deliver organic boxes across Exeter and run a fantastic farm school that we have been lucky enough to experience (blog coming soon).
