The perfect stocking filler for crafty kids – Pipity activity case

We love supporting local businesses, especially those that are run by fellow local Mums. Pipity creates crafty kits to keep the children busy over the holidays (especially on long journeys). Kate at Pipity sent us a sample, our Steph Walker thinks that the books make the perfect stocking filler and the activity pack could be the present that you’re looking for. Look out for a special reader offer at the end!

I have craft crazy girls. My biggest is definitely craft obsessed, her main concern about moving into year one was “will there be a craft table still?” (there is, phew!) She loves to stick, glue, colour, create and design. Somedays I wonder if there is enough sellotape in this world for her.

Everyone knows how crafty she is and so we now have a rather large stash of various different craft kits in our toy cupboard. The problem is most of these kits also require an adult to sit with her and help her do the craft as it’s not quite do-able by a lone 5 year old. If you also have 3 children all aged 5 and under you will know why that is a problem, a barely ever get 15 minutes to sit down and give her my undivided attention, let alone the 3 hours it took us to sew our own mermaid last week!

With all this in mind I was eager to try out the Pipity activity case and books. A case to keep all the crafty supplies handy, that’s portable and doubles up as a little easel, sounded awesome, we are forever losing glue sticks and scissors.

Pipity is a Devon based start up business (just down the road in Topsham) AND all the books are printed right here in Exeter. You couldn’t get a more local product.

The creator of Pipity is Mum of 3 Kate, who designs all the products and activities at her kitchen table right here in Devon. She came up with the idea for Pipity for her own kids, wanting to find things for them that would spark their imagination, keep them creatively busy and be easy to take out and about. As far as I’m concerned Kate has definitely ticked all those boxes.

The Activity Case

A well made, bright and appealing case that folds out and comes complete with handle, that my 5 year old loved as her latest accessory.

The case holds a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a set of crayons, pencil, ruler and pencil sharpener.

There is also a handy pocket to hold some of your creative makes and doodles and a space to hold one of the fab Pipity activity books. The case can then also be folded and has elasticated straps so you can attach one of the activity sheets and get creative wherever you are.

The Pipity books

These books are amazing, bright and colourful with just enough instructions and handy hints to enable any 5-8 year old to get going immediately.

There are several different themed books that have activities ranging from mazes and crosswords, to colouring, to cutting and making models.

So what’s so special about these activity books?

Well other than them being so well thought out and the activities being great, I think there are two stand out features for me.

Firstly, each page is perforated meaning you can easily pull out the page so you can get on with each activity. Secondly, Pipity has created the first and (in fact) only books available that have How to make/how to play linked Youtube videos.

These videos are amazing. They are easy to find, you can either use the QR Code on the activity page or you can search the activity name on the Pipity website.

Once you’ve found them they are clear, concise and exactly what my five year old needs to help her get going with a craft. Remember me saying about the craft sets that need adult undivided attention – not with Pipity. I set my big girl up and off she went!

If you don’t have internet access then the activities still have written instructions on each page which are also incredibly easy to follow.

We had a lot of fun creating Felix the Flexible fish at home on Sunday morning and, so pleased with her new accessory, the girl also insisted on taking it with her when we popped out to a cafe on Sunday afternoon. And what a lifesaver it was!

We used the “Games” activity book and had a fab couple of games of ‘Guess Who’. My three year old loved this after being taught the concept by her big sister and they were entertained so we could all enjoy a family outing and I got to drink my hot chocolate, while it was actually still hot.

The Walker household gives Pipity a massive thumbs up.

The books would make fab stocking fillers- in fact I’m off to order some now for my big kid. They are chockablock with activities but lightweight and a great size to post as gifts to far away friends.

If like me, you’re still in the middle of Christmas shopping and it’s a bigger present you are looking for the Activity case and matching Portfolio (to store all those important creations!) would make any creative kids day. Plus you’ll be supporting a new award winning local business.
