What If…? A Celebration of Children’s Stories this May half term

Calling All Young Storytellers!
Are you looking for something special to keep the kids engaged and inspired this May half-term? Look no further, Alibi have it covered!
Alibi Theatre in St Thomas is hosting ‘What If…?’ – a vibrant celebration of children’s stories that promises to ignite young imaginations across the city.
The Line-Up
The programme features Joseph Coelho, award-winning author and former Children’s Laureate (joining the ranks of literary giants like Michael Morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson, and Malorie Blackman). He’ll be leading energetic sessions to help children tap into their creativity while sharing insights from his own journey as an author. Perfect for aspiring young writers!
And Exeter’s own Tom McLaughlin will be running comic book workshops where kids can learn everything from crafting stories to drawing characters. Having attended one of Tom’s sessions with my own children a few years ago, I can personally vouch for his ability to connect with young creatives and leave them bursting with inspiration.

Something for Everyone
There are lots of activities for all:
- Make your own zines with Gnash Comics
- Sow seeds with Zero Mile Gardens
- Develop plays with Emma Baskeyfield and Mich Sanderson (part of the team behind Alibi’s magical Winterwood experience)
- Enjoy PaddleBoat Theatre’s ‘Uncertain Tides Takeover Day’ with free coastal-themed activities
What I love most is that Alibi has created a mix of free and ticketed events, making this accessible for all families. Emmanuel Hall will be open throughout half-term with their café serving refreshments, and their beautiful garden hosting numerous free activities.
