What a heartwarming and high‑energy evening this was! The Exeter Little Theatre Company’s staging of Kinky Boots was simply fantastic: a joyous, uplifting celebration of friendship, acceptance, and the power of fabulous footwear. From the moment the cast strutted on, the tone was set: this was a night designed to delight.

Lola and her Angels were showstoppers – full of sass, sparkle, and fearless energy, they lit up the stage in every number. Their choreography and sheer fun factor brought the iconic song-and-dance. On top of that, the whole ensemble were absolutely brilliant.

Exeter Little Theatre Company delivered a bold production at the Exeter Northcott Theatre. Kinky Boots itself is no stranger to acclaim, bearing six Tony Awards and packed with Cyndi Lauper’s electrifying score and Harvey Fierstein’s witty, uplifting book.

Visually, the costumes popped – the highest heels and the brightest colours. Every element felt carefully chosen to support storytelling and keep the energy flowing.

Importantly, the company announced a BSL interpreted performance during the run, a wonderful inclusion for accessibility and community engagement .

The production hit the perfect balance: unabashed fun and genuine emotional elements. There was sparkle where expected, but also moments of connection – when Charlie and Lola forge unlikely friendship, or when the ensemble comes together. The scenes all landed beautifully. All in all, it was a proper feel-good musical for those who like a fantastically entertaining show.

Exeter Little Theatre Company has once again shown that local theatre can shine bright. They brought world-class material to their local stage with warmth, professionalism, and gave their audience a night out to remember.

There are three shows left, catch it while you can!
