Paulos Circus is Creating Memories in Exeter, by Liz Finnie.

Roll up, roll up–Paulos Circus is back in town to perform their 2018 Creating Memories Tour. I took the family to see the first performance, based at the beautiful Darts Farm in Topsham. Unfortunately, my memory of the circus is when animal performances were the ‘done thing’–not one of my happy-go-to places now. Luckily, the ban of animals in circuses came to England in 2015 – so rest assured, there are no animals in sight (except for a few of the Dart’s Farm pigs in the adjacent field).

I must admit, circuses do make me a little nervous–especially the thought of all those crazy (and terrifying) clowns. However, there was only one low-key clown, Mr N, who was super-friendly, not at all scary, and had the whole audience clapping, shouting, singing and belly-laughing in between the main acts.

The show itself lasts 1 hour and 10 minute with no interval, which was a really good time-length for little wriggle-bums. There are hot dogs, popcorn and refreshments to purchase before the show and no seat allocations–so its first come first served. There are some very daring acts, some beautiful acrobatics, juggling (of course) and knife-throwing (had to remind my girls not to try that one at home!). There is also a Star Wars twist in parts and you may even catch a glimpse of some very famous singers. Without giving too much away, we were all thoroughly entertained and would really recommend this to families. Maybe you could get tickets as a birthday party idea.

The circus is here until the 8th July (Thursdays to Sundays) and tickets cost £7 per person. Check out the website here for more information on show times, days and how to book. Also check out The Paulos Circus Facebook and Twitter accounts for more info and ticket offers. For anyone over 18 years, Hells Circus will be performed on Saturday 30th June at 8:30pm – this will be a fun night out! Right, time to go and practise some circus skills!
