Our latest Staycation: Glamping near Axminster

Last weekend we were invited to Andrewshayes Holiday Park in East Devon (near Axminster) to test drive their new glamping pods.

Located on the edge of the Blackdown Hills, the holiday park is in an official area of outstanding natural beauty -the second thing I noticed (after we’d checked out the pod) was the amazing view from the balcony.

The pods look like little teletubby houses from the outside. They are made of wood with green roofs and they blend nicely into the countryside. From the outside do appear very small (as my 7 year old said) “It looks tiny Mummy, will we all fit in?” But the pods are deceptive, inside they are very comfortable with plenty of space for a short stay.

Proper mattresses are provided and they are really comfortable, so comfortable in fact, our kids slept in two whole hours longer than usual!

The pods also have a lovely balcony with a picnic table and a view and come with a BBQ to cook on.

It’s a short, well lit, walk to the shower, toilet and laundrette facilities which are clean and well maintained.

We had a great time hanging out, listening to Glasto on BBC Radio 6 and eating burgers, swimming and having dessert and drinks in the bar.

Andrewshayes has great facilities including:

Indoor Heated Pool

Covered by a retractable enclosure, it can be used with or without the roof according to the weather.

They also have outdoor Play Areas, a Nature Trail and a woodland walk

Andrewshayes has won awards as a great place to stay and we can see why – it’s got it all and it’s great for a nearby getaway with the opportunity to visit a different part of Devon for a short time.

What is supplied:

A heater, kettle, electricity and a BBQ

We needed to bring:

Bedding and pillows, Cooking Stove and Equipment, Plates and Cutlery, Food and drinks, Swim suits and towels.

Location-wise it has the rich pickings of South Devon and it is only six miles from the stunning Jurassic Coast at Seaton and only 8 miles to Lyme Regis, a great place to base yourself to explore!
